The interaction of Cajanus cajan with Rhizobium and vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (VAMF) was investigated in a greenhouse experiment. C. cajan was planted in soil that had been inoculated with Glomus aggregatum or treated with benlate to suppress VAMF activity. Initial soil solution P concentrations of 0.06, 0.2, 0.4, and 0.8 mg l-1 were established to test the interaction at external P levels that ranged from inadequate to nonlimiting for the host plant. At 0.06 and 0.2 mg P l-1, mycorrhizal inoculation significantly increased plant P concentrations as well as nodule numbers and shoot dry weight. Mycorrhizal inoculation also significantly increased nodule dry weight at a soil P concentration of 0.4 mg l-1 but did not significantly influence any of the other variables. The mycorrhizal inoculation effect observed at this soil solution P concentration could not be explained by any of the measures of plant P status. At 0.8 mg P l-1, none of the measured variables were affected significantly by mycorrhizal inoculation. The results indicate that the enhanced nodulation associated with mycorrhizal inoculation at soil P concentrations lower than 0.4 mg l-1 was explainable by mycorrhizal-mediated P uptake. The small but significant increase in nodule mass due to VAMF inoculation at 0.4 mg P l-1 suggests that factors not related to plant P nutrition may be involved. On the other hand, the lack of a VAMF inoculation effect at 0.8 mg P l-1 despite VAMF colonization at a level comparable to that observed at the former P concentration appear to discount this hypothesis.  Vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizae (VAM) were common in seedlings of Pseudotsuga menziesii and Tsuga heterophylla grown in a greenhouse soil bioassay in soils collected from the Oregon Coast Range. Although root samples were heavily colonized by ectomycorrhizal fungi (EM), VAM colonization was observed in the cortical cells of both secondary and feeder roots. Vesicles, arbuscules, and hyphae typical of VAM occurred in 48% of 61 P. menziesii and 25% of 57 T. heterophylla seedlings. The ecological significance of VAM presence in the Pinaceae, as well as interactions among VAM, EM, and the plant host, deserve future investigation. Accepted: 16 August 1995  相似文献

Glomus aggregatum and Leucaena leucocephala were interacted in an acid Mn-rich oxisol unamended or amended with lime [Ca(OH)2] or gypsum (CaSO4) at soil P concentrations considered optimal for mycorrhizal host growth and sufficient for mycorrhiza-free growth. At 0.02 mg P 1-1, both vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal (VAMF) colonization and function were significantly curtailed if soil was not amended with gypsum or lime. The highest mycorrhizal effect was observed in the limed soil, followed by the soil treated with gypsum at the rate of 32 g Ca kg-1 soil. Higher concentrations of gypsum deleteriously affected VAMF infectivity and effectivity. The first increment of gypsum compensated completely for the VAMF colonization and for part of the mycorrhizal effect that was lost due to low pH. The superiority of the limed soil to that amended with gypsum apparently lies in the fact that Ca supply was assured in the former and also that the adverse effects of toxic constituents such as H+ and Mn2+ were eliminated. We were unable to separate the effect of Ca on VAMF from its effect on the host because a P concentration sufficient for mycorrhiza-free growth was not attained due to interaction of some of the P with Ca to form insoluble phosphate.Contribution from the Hawaii Institute of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources Journal Series No. 4045  相似文献

 本研究测定了鼎湖山5种主要植被类型下土壤微生物养分的矿化值,结果表明:同一植被类型下,土壤微生物3种养分元素(氮、磷、钾)的矿化值大小不一,其顺序是:矿化氮(铵态氮+硝态氮)>矿化钾>矿化磷。同一种养分元素,不同植被类型下的矿化也有较大差异。5种植被类型下土壤微生物氮、磷、钾的矿化值范围分别为:20.24—33.36、2.01—3.86和8.88—18.35mg/kg(干土)。土壤微生物氮的矿化与土壤微生物生物量呈显著正相关,磷、钾的矿化与土壤微生物生物量无相关关系。不同植被类型下土壤微生物库养分贮量各不相同。碳,氮、磷和钾的贮量范围分别为:702.94—1150.58、93.72—155.53、10.95—20.27和34.03—70.35kg/ha,其平均贮量为:924.15±195.73,117.27±25.52,15.08±3.95和50.14±13.29kg/ha;分别占土壤库中有机碳、全氮、全磷和全钾的3.00±1.13、5.34±1.57、1.71±0.57和0.26±0.22%。5种植被类型中,季风常绿阔叶林的土壤微生物养分固定及其供应能力最强。  相似文献

Greenhouse mesocosms of freshwater marsh vegetation were exposed to a simulated saltwater intrusion event followed by a recovery period during which water levels and interstitial water salinity were adjusted over a range of conditions. Virtually all above-ground vegetation, including the three dominant species, Sagittaria lancifolia L., Leersia oryzoides (L.) Swartz, and Panicum hemitomon Schultes, was killed by the initial saltwater intrusion event. P. hemitomon did not recover, but S. lancifolia and L. oryzoides, as well as many of the other species initially present, exhibited some ability to recover depending on post-saltwater intrusion conditions. Increasingly harsh recovery conditions (for freshwater marsh vegetation), including more reduced soil conditions, higher interstitial salinities, and higher interstitial sulfide concentrations were associated with decreased live above-ground biomass and species richness. The effect of elevated salinity on vegetative recovery became more pronounced under flooded conditions. This experiment illustrates that the response of a freshwater marsh community to the long-term disturbance effect of a transient saltwater intrusion event will be strongly influenced by post-intrusion salinity and water levels.  相似文献

The onset of larval diapause in the burnet moth Zygaena trifolii is clearly characterized by the larva molting into a specialized dormant morph. In a potentially bivoltine Mediterranean population (Marseille) two types of diapause can occur within 1 year: firstly, a facultative summer diapause of 3–10 weeks, and secondly, an obligate winter diapause, which can be lengthened by a period of thermal quiescence to several months in temperatures of 5°C. For the first time, three successive physiological periods have been experimentally distinguished within an insect dormancy (between onset of diapause and molting to the next non-diapause stage), using chilling periods of 30–180 days at 5°C, and varying conditions of photoperiod and temperature. These stages are: (1) a continuous Diapause-ending process (DEP); (2) thermal quiescence (Q); and finally, (3) a period of postdiapause development (PDD) before molting to the next larval instar. The result of transferring dormant larvae from chilling at 5°C to 20°C depended on the length of the chilling period. After chilling for 120–180 days, molting to the next instar occurred after 6–10 days, independent of daylength. This period corresponds with the duration of PDD. After shorter chilling periods (90, 60, 30 days and the control, 0 days) the period to eclosion increased exponentially, and included both the latter part of the previous diapause process and the 6–10 day period of PDD. However, photoperiod also influences the time to eclosion after chilling. Short daylength (8 h light / 16 h dark: LD 8/16) lengthened the diapause in comparison to long daylength (16 h light / 8 h dark: LD 16/8). Short daylength had a similar effect during chilling at 5°C, as measured by the longer time to eclosion after transfer. The shorter time to eclosion resulting from longer chilling periods (30–90 days) demonstrates that the state of diapause is continuously shortened at 5°C, and corresponds to the neuroendocrine controlled DEP. Presumably the DEP has already started after the onset of diapause. When chilling was continued after the end of the DEP, which ranged between 90 and 120 days, thermal quiescence (Q) followed (observed maximum 395 days). Different photoperiodic conditions during the pre-diapause inductive period modified diapause intensity (measured as the duration of diapause), in that a photoperiodic signal just below the critical photoperiod for diapause induction (LD 15/9) intensified diapause. Experiments simulating the summer diapause showed that PDD occurred in the range of 10–25°C. Higher temperatures (15 and 20°C) shortened the DEP at LD 16/8, so that at 20°C many individuals had already terminated diapause after 10–40 days and had molted after the 6–10 days of PDD. A temperature of 25°C unexpectedly lengthened the DEP to 110 days in several individuals. The ecological consequences and the adaptive significance of variation in the duration of the diapause are discussed in relation to the persistence of local populations predictably variable and rare climatic extremes throughout the year.  相似文献

Mires have been classified in northern Europe at two levels: (1) mire complexes are viewed as large landscape units with common features in hydrology, peat stratigraphy and general arrangement of surface patterns and of minerogenous vs. ombrogenous site conditions; (2) mire sites are considered as units of vegetation research and used in surveys for forestry and conservation. This paper reviews the development of site type classifications in Fennoscandia (Finland, Sweden, Norway), with a discussion on circumboreal classification and corresponding mire vegetation types in Canada. The scale of observation affects classifications: small plot size (0.25–1 m2) has been used in Scandinavia to make detailed analyses of ecological and microtopographical variation in mostly treeless mire ecosystems, while larger sampling areas (up to 100–400 m2) have been commonly employed in Finnish studies of forested peatlands. Besides conventional hierarchic classifications, boreal mires have been viewed as an open, multidimensional, non-hierarchic system which can be described and classified with factor, principal component or correspondence analyses. Fuzzy clustering is suggested as an alternative method of classification in mire studies where only selected environmental and vegetational parameters are measured or estimated.Nomenclature: Lid, J. Plant functional types have been identified by the International Geosphere Biosphere Program as functionally similar basic plant types, especially trees, as needed for global ecological modeling. Based to some extent on an earlier set of pheno-physiognomically defined plant types, a Global Biome Model was produced but has not satisfied all the desired functional criteria posed by IGBP physiologists and modelers. This paper asks two questions: what are the main environmental factors which limit terrestrial plant types, especially tree types; and how many types of potential vegetation are needed to cover the world's terrestrial vegetation patterns? Based on the main environmental factors recognized, a model of world potential dominant vegetation types was produced and used to estimate the minimal number of vegetation types needed. The resulting set of 40 potential dominant vegetation types may serve as an initial basis for a structural-functionally based set of world plant functional types.  相似文献
